Airtel Ghana joined the international community to celebrate International Women’s Day on 8th March with a series of activities aimed at celebrating women in Airtel and across the country.
International Women’s Day is commemorated globally to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. The theme for this year’s celebration is “Women in the Changing World of Work”.
International Women’s Day first emerged from the activities of labor movements at the turn of the twentieth century in North America and across Europe.
Since those early years, the day has assumed a new global dimension for women in developed and developing countries alike. The growing international women’s movement, which has been strengthened by four global United Nations women’s conferences, has positioned the commemoration as a rallying point to build support for women’s rights and participation in the political and economic arenas.
Airtel Ghana is rolling out a month-long celebration with both internal and external activities planned to celebrate and empower its female employees to fully realize their potential. As part of the internal celebrations, female employees have been sharing heart-warming video messages to celebrate other female employees in the company who have inspired them to achieve more. The company will be rolling out a month-long plan to celebrate women in Ghana.
Commenting on the celebrations, Hannah Agbozo, the Company’s Director of Legal and Corporate Affairs said “Women are invaluable to organisations and society as a whole. They are naturally givers, most times never expecting anything in return. We are joining the rest of the world to commemorate International Women’s Day by celebrating the amazing women in Airtel and by extension, Ghana through a series of engaging activities and initiatives”.
She continued “The celebration of International Women’s Day is an opportunity to share in the struggles of women, celebrate their achievements and empower them to do more for humanity. As a business, we are firm believers in the contribution women make to our business, the economy and the world. We will continue to promote gender parity and advocate causes that support women to fully realize their potential”.
Airtel Ghana continues to demonstrate commitment towards empowering people to fully realise their potential through the company’s CSR programme and initiatives such as the celebration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month to sensitize the public and galvanise support to tackle breast cancer.
The company commemorates International Women’s Day every year to empower and encourage women to do more and be more. ,
